Foreword
This 2006 Guide to Summer Activities for Youth in the Capital Region has been prepared in connection with the College of Saint Rose American Studies Program’s “Summer in the City Project.” In response to feedback from Arbor Hill residents about both a lack of summer opportunities for young people and a lack of information about summer activities, we compiled information from a number of sources that might be of interest to families in Arbor Hill and other downtown neighborhoods. This is the third annual guide and includes expanded listings, web site addresses, and an index concerning financial aid.

You may receive this guide after some deadlines for registration are already past, but if you are very interested in a particular program, we encourage you to call. Sometimes there are cancellations and open slots after a registration deadline.

Getting young people involved in positive summer activities is extremely important for their development. It can also help to improve their academic achievement when they return to school. Summer is a great time for young people to experience the outdoors through camping; develop their creativity in the arts; explore science, math, and technology; make new friends; and have fun. We hope you find this guide useful. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for future guides.
