Albany Public Library Summer Reading Program
This summer’s theme is “Books: A Treasure.” Kids can look forward to a fun-filled summer with entertaining programming that is sure to get them excited about reading. All children participating in the APL summer reading programs are eligible for prizes as they add more books to their reading list. At the end of the summer each location will have an event to recognize the program participants and to award the best readers. The library also offers many other programs for youth and families, including babies and pre-school children.

Capital District Community Gardens
Participants can learn to grow flowers and their own food and are given a secure garden plot, free water, free seeds and tools to use. A full-time staff of seven, plus interns and volunteers, CDCG manages 45 cooperative neighborhood food garden in Albany, Latham, North Greenbush, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Troy, in New York’s Capital Region. CDCG also organizes annual street tree plantings for the cities of Troy and Rensselaer and works with local municipalities and nonprofit organizations to implement a wide range of urban greening projects, enhancing our region’s cities.

Children’s Museum of Science and Technology Summer Camps
Participants of the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology camps are introduced to a wide array of science and technology topics in camps such as Techno Worlds, Music Camp, and Digital Movie Creator. Topics are integrated with history and arts in a fun and friendly environment. Full day and half day camps available for 5-8 year olds and 8-12 year olds.

College of Saint Rose Summer Academy for Youth
The College offers week long, full and half-day exiting programs. Cultural Passport: Students are exposed to German, Russian, West African, and Japanese cultures. Students learn traditional dance, art, cooking, cinema, customs, and geography as well as basic language and terminology. Science and Technology: Students learn about storms, computer programming with Java, Web Page Design, Forensics, Landscape Architecture, and TV production. Music: Students learn about Rhythm and Blues, improvisation, and music writing. Art: Students learn about sculpture, outrageous art, painting, and comic books and illustration. Performing Arts: Participants learn set design and lighting, stage combat/physical stage action and costume/make-up design. Writing: Students learn journalistic writing, play script writing, poetry writing, political writing, fiction writing, and writing blogs. Summer Jazz and Theater Programs are also available.

Easter Seals Camp Colonie “School Without Walls” Summer School Program
This program was developed by Easter Seals in response to a specific request by parents of students with disabilities who were required to attend a 30 day summer school program, therefore depriving them from enjoying regular summer activities. Easter Seals works with area school districts, and serves students with disabilities in a camp setting with their typically developing peers. The camp provides the required Summer school credits and treatment in a fun, outdoor, camp-like setting, as well as transportation, to and from home. The program involves learning new skills, making new friends, and participating in swimming, arts and crafts, active/cooperative games, recreation, nature appreciation music and academic support in reading, mathematics, science, writing and geography.

Ellis Hospital Sugar Free Gang Kids Kamp at Clifton Park Elks
Lodge
A day camp for children living with diabetes offering them a chance to learn about the disease
and how to better manage their illness. A day experience which combines education and social
support for kids with diabetes. Activities focused on a theme to include diabetes related games,
crafts, sports, special guests/entertainment, and participation in the closing ceremony on the last
day of camp.

The Heldeberg Workshop

This camp is designed for students in grades six through eight who are experiencing difficulties in mathematics or English language arts/reading or both. Summer Academy
This summer program offers variety of classes that will engage children and teens, including:
Make it and Take it (make popular store items such as Silly Putty and sidewalk chalk using
common household materials); Broadcast Newz Kids (design, script, cast and produce your
own broadcast production); Math American Idol; Build Your own Computer; and many more

Ten Broeck Mansion Summer Archeology Camp
Students dig on the site of the 19th Century Ten Broeck barn and carriage house. Students get hands-on experience discovering real artifacts. Camp is conducted by the trained professionals at Hartgen Archeological Associates and Albany County Historical Association staff and volunteers. The camp concludes with an exhibit of findings created by the students and presented to the public at the open house, July 14, 2006.

Time Tunnel Summer Day Camp at the New York State Museum
Time Tunnel offers three, two week thematic sessions for children entering first through seventh grades. Activities encourage campers to explore the world through arts and crafts, educational programs in museum exhibits, cooperative games, computers, swimming and much more. Time Tunnel is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, with the opportunity to register for hour-early and/or hour-late (Time Tunnel Extra) sessions as needed.

Youth Organics
Gardens serve as outdoor classrooms for learning the art of compost making and soil biology, cooking, plant identification, as well as harvesting, packing and bringing produce to a local site for donation or sale. Youth will be involved in all stages of the food process, from seed to plate. Through this cooperative work environment, will be provided with skills and opportunities to take on leadership roles. They will learn how to run a meeting, and how to organize and conduct outreach for a community event, such as a block party.
